Junior Capstone Unit 1

In Junior Unit 1, scholars will explore why caring for the environment is essential for a healthy, thriving community. They will learn how keeping neighborhoods clean, protecting nature, and making responsible choices helps everyone. Scholars will also build financial literacy by understanding how communities use money to care for parks, manage waste, and make eco‑friendly decisions—and how these economic choices impact families and the environment.

Junior Capstone Unit 2

In this junior unit, scholars will learn about homelessness in the community and explore the many reasons people may not have stable housing. They will discuss how communities work together to support families in need and ways young people can show empathy and care. Scholars will also build financial literacy by learning how money, jobs, budgeting, and community resources affect housing—and how economic challenges can impact a family’s ability to find and keep a home.

Advance Capstone Unit 1

In this advanced unit, scholars will dive deeper into the idea of community safety and explore how neighborhoods work to keep people protected and supported. They will examine the roles of community helpers, local organizations, and safety systems that respond to emergencies. Scholars will also build financial literacy by learning how communities budget for safety—such as funding for emergency services, safe buildings, and neighborhood programs—and how economic decisions shape the overall wellbeing of a community.

In this advanced unit, scholars will explore community development and learn how decisions—like gerrymandering—can shape the way neighborhoods grow and receive resources. They will examine how boundaries, voting districts, and planning choices impact schools, parks, transportation, and community voice. Scholars will also build financial literacy by studying how money is invested in different neighborhoods, how funding decisions affect community growth, and why fair economic planning is essential for all families to thrive.
